Welcome to our WCMID website.
Another year is speeding by and, as the saying goes, time waits for no one. But with regard to our WCMID organization and the principles we represent, time is on our side. As I travel to various dental meetings and even here within the ivy-covered walls of academia where I teach, I see evidence of and hear increased talk about “minimally invasive dentistry”. Admittedly, I’m not always comfortable with how that phrase is being used or what procedures it is being applied to describe, but at least people, dental providers and patients alike, are thinking more about preventing dental diseases in the first place, and questioning when and to what extent cutting of oral tissues is necessary. That’s a good thing! Our message is being heard by more patients, dentists, hygienists, and dental industry representatives each successive day. Time is indeed on our side.
And it’s also time to register and make your hotel and travel reservations for our 11th Annual Conference, which will be held in the Downtown Westin Hotel in San Diego, California, Friday and Saturday, August 20th & 21st, 2010. Click on the “Annual Meeting” tab on the toolbar above and you will find our meeting registration link and also a direct link to make your hotel reservation. The Westin is providing us with a very favorable room rate for the conference, and by registering specifically for the WCMID block of rooms, you help us to keep our meeting costs down, both for this year and for the future. So book your room when you register for the meeting – heck, book several rooms and bring the whole family! The Downtown Westin is located close to the Gas Lamp district and convention area in the heart of San Diego, and San Diego is full of fun activities in August weather that is perfect – not too hot, not too cold – 24 hours a day.
As for the Conference itself, it’s certainly a challenge to surpass last year’s 10th Anniversary Conference in San Francisco, but we will! We have made several strategic improvements to the meeting plan that I think you will all like. For one, we have shortened the overall length of our meeting, but kept all the content so that we can maintain the value of the meeting while reducing your costs for time out-of-the-office. Keep an eye on this website for posting of the full meeting schedule, but be assured that the meeting will be filled with the latest research on disease management and materials/techniques, protocols for implementation of MID concepts into your practices, and a bounty of stimulating ideas for the future of minimally invasive dental service to our patients. Add to all of that the fun of reconnecting with old friends and making new ones in the wonderful city and climate of San Diego, and you have all of the ingredients of a great meeting, a meeting that is unique in its focus on patient benefit first and foremost.
I want to thank all of our prior attendees of WCMID Conferences – truly an enthusiastic group of dedicated dental care providers and Strategic Dental Industry Partners – and I hope you will all continue to support WCMID by joining us this August. Yes, the economy is still not great, but it is looking better. And always remember, what you don’t spend, the government will! So who would you rather have enjoying your money? Come to the Conference!
